How do you get Kali to work properly? Are you running it all in a VM?
Have you already tested online play with someone else?

All previous attempts at playing online always resulted into heavy lag after a couple of rounds max...

... and carmageddon add-ons at road reaction.

We usualy used hifi's wsock32.dll. There are two versions: one to connect via the internet, and the LAN one which can be paired with Hamachi, Tunggle and the likes. The second option is the most tested one. GOG improved hifi's work. You can get the files here http://rr2000.toshiba-3.com/R4/PC/carma-wsock32.zip

Must say it's been years since I last looked for new alternatives!

It's all pretty straightforward really? Yes winsock32 is made to work with Carma95.
And I think the IPXwrapper can be left untouched, I'll have to double check. Just test and mess with it all, you can't set your house on fire (I think).
