Suffice to say I have finally got Gibbed Tools decompiling normal maps properly as can be seen here:

Excellent Trent!

Jumping in now. I'm putting together some scripts to extract the files in the right place, and decompile the lua ready for editing. We know c:r works with text lua files, and I've extracted the zads, and can play with the files in the right place (%steamdir%/common/Carmageddon_Reincarnation/Data_Core/).

Now, the part that needs some work, I can extarct the zads at the command line, and decompile the lol files once the 5th byte has been changed, but I do not know of a tool to assist with scripting the changing of the byte on windows (I'm a dirty mac user by day). Has any one got any suggestions?

Oh, and I'll release my scripts once I know they won't eat any users.

Thanks lemon, I don't need one for mac (I can use the standard cli tools for it). Happily, I have found a port of them (http://sourceforge.net/projects/unxutils/) that I can use. I'm knocking up a script to extract all the files and put the in the right place now (Using powershell, which is included in windows 7 and up).

Guys, i cant wait until someone figures out how to edit/view all the models. I'm super excited! Toshiba's model-viewing tool is very limited. :C

Yeah, chances are the alpha channel is being used for some other shading data.

Well, what happens if you remove it?

Spoiler:
Old beginning of post, 'hidden' so its just about the powerup installer
=============================================================
Who requested the move? And where?? (not to be a dick but) I kinda meant for this to stay in the 'Kick Me Private Area' till the steam earl-ass alpha release, so we could cook up some tools like the one below to simplify 'unofficial modding' for the less tech-savvy carmageddon players. (was also thinking of suggesting a texture and .lol en/decoder) Anyways just saying, glad to have found the topic again hehe.

Those are some nice findings btw guys :D will add them to the first post!

So here's what i've been beavering away at for the past few days, simply put, its an (old school) ui for WinRAR (hence, you need WinRAR), it doesn't do all the things i wanted it too, (like add custom translations) but it should still be useful for some of ya. (Made mostly for the non-modding-people btw) Feel free to add it to any power-up(s) you offer up for grabs. Will post any updates (still some to-do's) in this same post.

This will help 'ease the pain' of installing custom powerups, its really just a fancypants ui for WinRAR that lets you backup and restore default powerups aswell as install custom powerups, without having to manually move around and rename stuff.

UNOFFICIAL POWERUP INSTALLER 0.61
Download: Here (WinRAR opens .rar files wink wink)
Install: Extract at *STEAM*/SteamApps/common/Carmageddon_Reincarnation/
Use: Double-click Powerup-Installer.bat and follow on-screen instructions.
Todo:

  • Find a way to edit text_earlass.XML (so it can set custom powerup names)
  • Fix it so it doesn't whine about temp_directory not being empty ~30% of the time.

Changelog:

  • 0.61: 'Backup ALL'-Crash after first use (in a directory tree with () brackets) fixed.
  • 0.60: Backup/Restore single powerups now working and some fixes
  • 0.51: Made compatible with directorys using ( ) brackets.
  • 0.50: Initial release

It comes with an example 'custom Power-up', its just a slightly tweaked Pinball.
Let me know if there are any issues, i wrote it on Win7 but it should work from XP to 8.x (provided you installed WinRAR)

And yes, it was a bitch to make hehe, when i started i figured meh a few commands and some ui and we got ourselves a neat little tool, sure that can be a batch file! turns out batch files dont work that easy, 600+ 950+ lines lol. Ah well.
